 THE SEA BEYOND

MARE FUORI

Mare Fuori is a groundbreaking TV series produced by Rai and distributed globally by Netflix, quickly becoming a media and cultural phenomenon. Within just a few months of its release on RaiPlay, it garnered over 30 million views, and with subsequent seasons, it surpassed 100 million, solidifying its place as a cult series.

Music played an essential role in the storytelling, intricately woven into the narrative from the outset, as envisioned by screenwriters Cristiana Farina and Maurizio Careddu. The soundtrack was a vital component of the series’ complex narrative structure, enhancing the emotional depth of each scene.

The music was recorded in Rome and Turin, featuring the renowned RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema (OIC), and the Orchestra di Roma. The production and distribution of the soundtrack were managed by RaiCom and Coloora, and it was distributed in both physical and digital formats by ADA/Warner. The artistic and technical direction of the soundtrack was led by Stefano Lentini with the collaboration of Geoff Foster in the first, fourth, and fifth seasons, the latter scheduled for release in February 2025.

The soundtrack’s success transcended the screen, accumulating over 100 million streams on YouTube, earning a double platinum certification and two gold records.

In the video below, Stefano Lentini provides an in-depth explanation of the artistic and technical choices that influenced the music and its recording process, offering a unique perspective on this extraordinary project.

Why did Mare Fuori achieve such success? Let’s be honest, no one can predict or control success, but what we can control is our dedication and the quality of our work.
